Christmas Card 2015

Diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in January 2015, I spent a year sick and enduring chemotherapy and it's side effects. There were so many people supporting and helping me throughout. This card is dedicated to them. It depicts a few of Sanya/St Nicholas' European helpers, St Lucia, Krampus, Julenisse, and Zwarte Piet bringing gifts, mail and text messages. many of the items are actual gifts that were sent.

The characters used for the game were originally drawn up for another game a while ago and were posted then as Non Playing Characters (scroll down this page to find them). I transferred the original drawings to heavy watercolor paper and embellished them, sometimes adding more of the body, then I hand painted them with acrylics and detailed with colored pencil. Using Photoshop, I added the backgrounds and the text and numerals. I also created the card back in PhotoShop.

The Miller's Daughter

 This is the last in series I did of the Fairy Tale heroines. I started her the same time I started Briar Rose and Cinderella. I believe that was back in Fall of 07. She has sat on a board for three years, mostly finished. A friend's interest in the series renewed my  desire to complete the detail work, as this Heroine from Rumplestilskin was one of her favorites.
The Miller's Daughter, first placed in the impossible situation of spinning straw into gold, strikes a bargain with a small strange man who demands her first born as payment for his help, with the condition that she is free of the contract if she can guess his name.
The poor girl, now the Queen, is shown holding her child and glancing at the place where the funny little man once stood. Apparently she guessed correctly.
